The Asset   26 Mar 2026

UK-headquartered bank Standard Chartered has appointed Jan Metzger as the global head of coverage banking for its corporate and investment banking ( CIB ) team.

Metzger, a highly experienced global banker with two decades’ experience in Asia, has a long track record of leading multi-region businesses, the bank notes, serving corporates, financial institutions and public sector clients with investment banking, credit and transaction banking.

He joins the lender from Citi, where he was most recently co-head of investment banking for the bank’s Asia clusters and helped drive numerous landmark merger and acquisition and capital market transactions for clients across the region. He held a number of senior roles, including global co-head of technology investment banking, following roles at Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank.

Based in Hong Kong, Metzger will be a member of Standard Chartered’s CIB management team and report to Roberto Hoornweg, CEO of CIB.

“Our success depends on a global client-first mindset, relentless execution and assembling the best talent to deliver sustainable growth,” Hoornweg says.  “Metzger is a fantastic addition to our team who will help accelerate the momentum that we have gained in our global franchise over the last few years.”

With Metzger’s departure from Citi, Kaustubh Kulkarni, who has been serving as the bank’s co-head of investment banking for Asia clusters alongside him, will assume the role of head of investment banking for Jana ( Japan, Asia North and Australia ) and Asia South, Citi adds, to ensure continuity among its teams and clients.
